What is 925 Silver?
Simply put, 925 silver means that an item is made from sterling silver. Sterling silver itself is an alloy (mixture of metals) containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925. In other words, for every 1,000 parts of metal, at least 925 need to be pure silver.
Silver is a very soft metal, which is why it is best used as an alloy combined with another metal, especially where jewellery is concerned.
All sterling silver jewellery supplied by Alfred & Co. Jewellery is made from premium sterling silver and hallmarked by the London Goldsmith Assay office to assure its authenticity.
